falls from heights

Last year 45 workers died following a fall from height and 3750 were seriously injured. Reducing this unnecessary injury toll is a priority for the HSE and Shattered Lives is their latest campaign.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of when people are working at height, the associated risks and how to select the most appropriate precautions and equipment to carry out the work safely.

The Initial Enforcement Expectation (IEE) checklist, which HSE inspectors have used in previous campaigns  including the ‘risk control Indicator’ is available to download below. Members are advised that they could possibly be visited, and therefore it maybe prudent to involve where appropriate their safety representatives and use the checklist in advance to measure current standards.

Additional information on falls from height including guidance documents are available from the HSE website http://www.hse.gov.uk/falls/index.htm
