CORRUGATED INDUSTRY PARLIAMENTARY RECEPTION

The Confederation of Paper Industries’ Parliamentary Reception proved to be a great success again this year, with 18 Members of Parliament attending to speak to representatives of the Corrugated Packaging Industry.

The event, held in the Houses of Parliament on October 26th, was sponsored by Dan Rogerson MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Packaging.

In his address to the industry audience, Mr Rogerson, the Liberal Democrat MP for North Cornwall, said: “I’ve seen in my own constituency the importance of the Corrugated Packaging Industry to the local economy. This is a product that minimises
waste while ensuring that goods arrive safely at the retailers. And, of course, it can be recycled. It’s a good news story – a great story to tell. I’m aware also of the thousands of people who work in the industry and the level of training and investment that goes in to support them. It’s good to have you here today to bend our ears!”

In reply, Richard Coward, Chairman of the CPI Corrugated Sector, thanked Dan Rogerson for his sponsorship of the
event and his positive remarks about corrugated packaging. He added: “It’s good to see that our representatives in Parliament see packaging as part of the solution, not the problem.

We are starting to see that there is strong support in Parliament for growth in manufacturing and we are here to
encourage our MPs to put in place the right policies to achieve a manufacturing renaissance. As corrugated packaging represents 75% of all transit packaging, we have an important role to play in the
country’s future economic health.”
